Drum Rudiments

Have you ever wondered how Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, Dennis Chambers, Vinnie Colauita Managed to be on top and how are they doing those insane technical drumming that looks like they are the only ones who can do it? The secret are the rudiments that they have mastered and Improvised to obtain techniques or their "Trademarks"

Drum Rudiments are set of basic patterns used in rudimental drumming. These patterns form the basic building blocks or "vocabulary" of drumming, and can be combined in a great variety of ways to create drumming music. There are 40 types of rudiments that are essential for every drummer that exists. These are said to be essential because these are the very first exercises that every drummer has to master or put into their muscle memory in order to do those complicated rolls, fill-ins and grooves.

These rudiments are commonly practiced with of a pair of sticks and a practice pad or a snare. From the lowest possible tempo or speed, you need to execute each stroke of the rudiment evenly. I suggest start with 60 bpm(beats per minute) until your muscle memory recognizes the flow of the strokes and evenly execute within the tempo given. If you feel relaxed and think that you can take it to a higher level without stumbling then go on turn your tempo 10 beats faster (from 60 bpm to 70 bpm) . Remember that it takes time to perfect it. Make sure that you do it slowly but surely. Don't rush and get excited that you want to go way faster already. It's important that you get to feel every tempo range.

Here are the rudiments with links to it's video:(thanks to drumrudiments.com) Enjoy!
